Brian
McGregor speaking - you receive the UK Internet Auction
Users
Newsletter because you have bought from me or enquired
about my
auction items on eBay or QXL.
I have no
wish to encourage S-P*A-M, so if you do not want to
receive
this newsletter, the only one dedicated to
sellers,
you can unsubscribe by sending a blank email to

1. How much is it worth?
I had a
question from a reader concerning how much they might
expect to
achieve for an item they wished to auction on eBay.
Did you
know you can find out how much eBay items were sold for
quite
easily?
Let's
suppose you have a Tanglewood guitar to sell, and
you'd
like an
idea of how much this might realise.
Here's how
you do it:
1 - Go to
eBay.co.uk.
2 - Using
the Basic Search box on the home page, type in
tanglewood guitar.
3 - Make
your search as narrow as possible by clicking on the
appropriate
"Matching category" found on the left edge of the
screen.
For example in this instance, you would select Musical
Instruments.
4 - On the
left hand of the screen now click on the "Completed
items"
link.
That will
show you the auctions that have ended in the last 14
days
containing tanglewood guitar in the title. By
observing the
auctions
that closed with a winning bidder (or "Buy it Now" sale)
you can
determine the approximate value you might expect for your
guitar.
Also, you could examine and maybe emulate the techniques
used by
those sellers who are producing the top bidding results.

2. Quick Tips - preserving your privacy
Although
not strictly to do with auctions, I wondered if you are
sick of
being pestered by telephone calls intruding into your
evening
offering such goodies like cheaper gas or electricity, or
double
glazing?
Also, would
you like to limit the unsolicited mailshots you're
receiving
for loans, charities etc?
If so, you
can do something about both areas now.
First
telephone calls.
The
Telephone Preference Service enables you to register your
telephone
number as one sales and marketing telephone calls are
not to be
made to.
Next, mailshots.
The Mailing
Preference Service lets you register with the Direct
Marketing Authority NOT to receive unsolicited direct mail. This
won't
stop all mailshots, but it will be honoured by those
companies
who are members of the DMA.
You can
register for both or either service here -
http://www.dma.org.uk/shared/PrefServices.asp
Quick Tips - previous issues of the
Newsletter
As new
people subscribe to the Newsletter, I have been asked how
they can
see previous issues. If you wish to do this, you will
find an
index of the Newsletters at -

3. A lesson for us all!!!!
As I'm
writing this Newsletter, a very disturbing tale is
unwinding
on eBay's Community Question & Answer discussion board.
In a
nutshell, a lady bought a leather sofa on an eBay auction
over 5
weeks ago. When she won the auction, she opted to pay Cash
on
Delivery. A couple of weeks later, it seems the seller
requested
that she pay up front - which she duly did, by cheque
for £929.
Five weeks
from the end of the auction, no furniture has arrived
and the
buyer is being totally "fobbed off" by the seller.
In recent
hours she has contacted other buyers of the same
seller.
Unfortunately she has been told by some that they too
have
suffered in the same way!
Although
this hasn't run it's full course, it seems possible
that
the lady
may lose her money.
The lesson
is clear, particularly with this type of amount.
Unless you
are absolutely 100% sure of the integrity of your
seller,
don't pay up front. If you get the
chance to read the
discussion,
you can see this story unfolding.

LATE
NEWS!!!!
It looks
like the sofa is on its way - thank goodness! The buyer
sounds so
relieved. But, all the grief and heartache could have
been
avoided. Please make sure this never happens to you!

4. Readers requests
Regular
readers will know I recently launched "The eBay Formula"
- my newest eBook.
If you want
to make extra money or perhaps would like to go
full-time
selling on eBay.co.uk, then I guarantee "The eBay
Formula"
will help you.
I offered
the eBook at a special discount price of £14.95 for
readers
of the newsletter. This saving of £5 was meant to be for
a limited
time, but I have had requests from readers to extend
the
offer.
As
"The eBay Formula" has proved to be so popular with newsletter
subscribers,
I have decided to keep the special price open until
the end
of November 2003.
This will
be the last time I make this offer, as the eBook is
already
available on my web site for the full price. From 1st
December,
"The eBay Formula" will revert to the normal price of
£19.95 for all purchasers.
Whilst I
know even the discounted amount of £14.95 is a
considerable investment, as with all the eBooks I write,
you have
my normal
moneyback guarantee. So you have the opportunity to
see
if
"The eBay Formula" gives you that impetus to do something
exciting
on
your
money back if it doesn't meet with your expectations.
You can
read about "The eBay Formula", plus see the free items
included
in the package, at my information page here:

5.
Someone's auctioning WHAT????
Nothing
surprises me when it comes to internet auctions. Amuse
yourself
with some of these beauties ...
Just type
the auction number into the Search Box on eBay or QXL
as
appropriate.
If you're a
gambler, or merely curious why not bid for this Lucky
Dip. What
do you get for 99p? I can't tell you. But it must be
big as
P&P is £10!!!! Hmmmmm. Check it out here, eBay
2963145923.
I think the
government could learn something from this seller -
he or she
is offering a jar of fresh air!
precise.
With a starting price of 20p per jar, you can just
imagine
how much Gordon Brown might collect if the government
gets into
manufacturing mode. The auction is here, eBay
2963145050.
You will notice this seller also understands the
importance
of key words in the auction description page. Although
it has
been slightly overdone! Oh, and it also contravenes eBay
rules -
but I haven't the heart to report the seller as he or she
brought a
smile to my face.
What a
great idea to make money from those holiday snaps! Take a
look at
eBay auction 3636704175. If you can get 99p for an NYPD
policeman
on Wall Street, how much for Grandma and Grandad
sitting
in deckchairs on the beach at
new
industry here!
Well, if
only I had known that it was as easy as that! All we
need is a
book showing us how to cast love spells, and everyone
will be
at peace with everyone else. You can bid for this bargain
on QXL
9486928. All I can say is I hope his love life is better
than his
spelling.
Disclaimer
- I have no association with any of the sellers of the
above
items.
================================
6. Finally .....
I have been
using eBay and QXL for around two years,
initially
for buying, but very quickly I started selling
items. My
current feedback ratings are 931 on eBay and 130
on QXL.
I have four
User IDs, three on eBay and one on QXL.
eBay User
IDs: gbm0, workwinners, jmcollie
QXL User
ID: bptrad
If you want
to look at the items I currently have on
auction,
use Advanced Search on eBay or QXL, and key in my
seller
ID.
I also
write eBooks and Special Reports, and you can see all
of
these at
my web site:
