1. Hints and Tips
a) My eBay - Changes at eBay
You may have already noticed that eBay have updated your My eBay
page. If you want to take the eBay tour of the new My eBay, go here:
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr501.htm
As with most changes that eBay make, many members don't take too
kindly to change. Have a look at the forum on this, there are one
or two pretty direct comments. You have been warned!
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr502.htm
My personal view is it's a positive change. There is much useful
information available. If you don't like it, the preferences
allow you to virtually set your My eBay page back to what it
showed before the change.
b) About me - Changes at eBay
No, this isn't really about ME. This is about YOU. You probably
know that eBay allows you to create a page of information about
yourself which is available for other buyers and sellers to see.
It's an opportunity to promote your expertise, your integrity,
your background - in fact anything that conveys to other eBayers
that you are a good person with whom to do business. If you
haven't created your About me page yet, it's worth doing. It's
also a lot easier since eBay have introduced a far simpler
process to follow, with lots of templates and other shortcuts. If
you're selling, I would say an About me page is an absolute must!
So, go on, tell the eBay world what a super person you are to
deal with.
c) Just call me Mystic Meg
You could say I am a sceptic. Or even a cynic. But when Listing
Designer Themes were announced some months ago as a listing
option which cost nothing, I said in this newsletter that it
would soon become a chargeable feature.
Guess what?
On May 11th, eBay.co.uk launched an extended set of Listing
Designer Themes. These new themes will help sellers improve the
quality and attractiveness of their listings - it said in the
announcement.
This is eBay speak for introducing a fee. From May 12th, using a
Listing Designer Theme will cost you 7p. Not a fortune I agree.
But once the item is in the fee structure, it can be restructured
along with other fees.
d) A no cost way to promote your website via eBay
If you have a website, and your an eBay user, there is an easy
way to promote your website within eBay's rules. When you post
feedback to any of your buyers or sellers, include your web
address in your feedback comment. Whenever anyone clicks to check
the feedback of a buyer or seller of yours, they will see your
comment and your web site address. Some people will be
inquisitive enough to go to your website. It won't be massive
traffic but, as all the guru's now acknowledge, building an
internet business is an evolutionary process with many strands to
marketing. And this is just one.
e) Security reminder
I have received the normal number of emails since the last
newsletter about fraud. Once again eBay members are being
targeted with emails from criminals attempting to extract User
IDs and Passwords. For the sake of new readers, let me repeat the
advice I have given in the past:
1. Change your eBay and PayPal passwords EVERY 30 days. (If you
use online banking, change that password every 30 days too)
2. Don't use the same password on eBay and PayPal.
3. eBay, PayPal or your bank will NEVER send you an email which
is not personally addressed. If the email looks like it is from
one of those organisations, but says Dear customer or Dear member
etc, it is a fraud. Don't answer it!
4. NEVER respond to any email appearing to come from eBay or
PayPal or your bank that asks you for your sign-in details. Why
would they ask for details they already have?
5. PayPal have
a
7307191. Make a note of this now, you never know when you might
need it!
Lastly, if ever you succumb to one of these emails feeling that
what is on your screen must be genuine, here's what you should
do:
Key in your username accurately, but make sure you input an
incorrect password. Simple as that.
If the email sender is genuine they will know your password is
incorrect, and they will tell you so and ask you to re-input. If
the email sender is a fraudster, they will greedily accept your
username and password, but all they have is a username and
password combination that won't work.

2. Positive eBaying
I am subscriber to a newsletter from a guy named Jim Cockrum. You
might have heard of him. He's the author of a superb eBook called
"The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay".
His newsletter is always constructive and thought provoking.
This month he has reminded me that despite any setbacks or
problems I might have had, eBay really is an incredible
opportunity.
If you're beginning to doubt if eBay can be the key - this is for
you.
The CEO of eBay, Meg Whitman, has recently stated that over
430,000 people now make a full-time living using eBay. That's
impressive, not to say incredible! Nearly half a million new
businesses created by people like you and me.
As Jim says, he is in the unique position of hearing some AMAZING
EBAY SUCCESS STORIES and he goes on to describe some of them.
Get ready to be inspired.
The first person is a man who made over $25,000 profit in ONE
eBay auction. He bought a website for a few hundred dollars, and
then auctioned it on eBay and made $25,000 profit. Phew!!
Another eBay seller cruised to success. This story involves a
creative thinker who approached a friend of his who owns a
business selling expensive vehicles. The "driven" eBay seller and
the "expensive vehicle" business owner struck up a deal to sell
the vehicles on eBay. The eBay seller pulled in $30,000 profit
his FIRST month. Talk about a WIN-WIN-WIN situation! Customers
get a great deal buying through a trusted venue (eBay). The eBay
seller gets profit on a product he doesn't have to buy first, and
the vehicle business owner has a new multi million prospect base
(eBay).
Talking about the smell of money...have you ever seen anyone sell
live seafood on eBay? There is a guy who is selling exactly that.
He "fishes" for orders on eBay and collects payment. His orders
are then drop shipped directly from the "fresh catch" location to
his customers house. The creative eBay seller never sees the
orders - he just collects payment and then encourages his
customers to surf on over to his website to place more orders.
He's swimming in profits!
Another couple emailed Jim awhile back. There are selling
$220,000 worth of paint-ball equipment per month on eBay. They
plan to get over $500,000 per month in the near future. The
popularity of paint-balling is at an all time high and these eBay
sellers are cashing in.
What's black and white and read all over? You know it's a
newspaper. Well there's a type of newspaper in which we're
especially interested - Classified ads. Old classifieds newspaper
ads present a gold mine of opportunity for the industrious eBay
seller. The consignment opportunity on eBay is BOOMING!
Consignment in this context simply means selling on behalf of
someone else. There are many people who simply go through the
classified ads of their local newspaper and look for good eBay
items. They then contact the owner of the item and ask if it has
sold. If it hasn't sold they offer to sell it on eBay for the
owner for a percentage of the total price. This concept works
best for high-price items because there is more money to split.
Also, use classified ads that are 2-3 weeks old increases the
chances of an owner going along with the idea.
The last success story... Jim Cockrum himself. This month marks
18 months since he left his full-time good paying corporate job
to pursue eBay and the Internet as his sole source of income. He
says his family sees him a lot more, he works far fewer hours
with much more flexibility and he earns A LOT more money (3 or 4
times more per month) and behind it all is his favorite four
letter word... eBay.
For those of you still standing on the sideline without
participating in the eBay sales opportunity I can only say,
"You've nothing to lose. Come on in, get in the game!"

is all about, go to this page:

3. eBay at Euro 2004
An intriguing Court Case has just taken place in which eBay were
"requested" by UEFA to provide personal information of its
members.
UEFA had applied for wide ranging powers in relation to the
trading of EURO 2004 tickets on eBay.
UEFA's original application would have forced eBay to:
(i) individually search amongst its 25 million items on sale
across 28 websites globally (with 3.5 million new items listed
every day) for listings offering UEFA EURO 2004 tickets for sale;
(ii) disclose personal details of all eBay users involved in the
sale of EURO 2004 tickets; and
(iii) police UEFA's rights on its behalf by serving Court orders
against those eBay users.
If UEFA obtained such an order it would have far reaching
consequences for all e-commerce service providers and consumers.
In the end, UEFA agreed to a much narrower Court Order proposed
by eBay whereby eBay provides
details only of
criminal offences by selling UEFA England tickets via eBay.
eBay consider this as a victory, and the Court ordered that UEFA
pay all of eBay's legal costs, and any ongoing cost of providing
the personal details of these identified criminals.
And you thought eBay was just about selling collectables and
antiques!!

4. An auction eBook
As regular readers will know, I've always enjoyed research.
My early research into eBay some years ago led me to a lady
called Sydney Johnson. She is one of the earliest sellers on
eBay, having made her first sale in 1996.
She is the author of Make Your Net Auction Sell!, published by
Dr. Ken Evoy and SiteSell, which is considered by many to be the
"Bible" on net auctions. This is the best selling internet
auction eBook.
Course, a powerful 16 hour seminar on the internet that teaches
everything necessary to build a powerful and wealthy online
auction, and includes software and numerous other aids.
She is also the author of How To Get Started Making Money With
Online Auctions, part of the Intellectua.com Dream Job series.
Today, Hispanic magazine, Texas Technology magazine, The Times
Online and Investor Business Daily, as well as numerous radio
interviews
I have managed to secure a special arrangement whereby you can
have a copy of Make Your Net Auction Sell!, without charge. I
know this is oriented to the
principles are common and will stand you in good stead this side
of the pond. If you're interested in getting your reserved copy
of this excellent eBook, please go to:

5. Someone's auctioning what? Unusual items currently available
Nothing surprises me when it comes to internet auctions. Amuse
yourself with some of these beauties ...
Not quite sure about this one. I laughed when I first saw it -
but I can tell you now, I won't be bidding!
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr505.htm
OK. OK. I give up. What's this all about? Anyone?
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr506.htm
Sometimes I know how this guy feels. Like when eBay remove one of
my auctions, and I don't understand why!
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr507.htm
Can anybody tell me what model of car this is? It's a Mercedes
..... what?
http://www.workwinners.com/nlr508.htm
I must admit, when I first read this I thought it was the real
thing! I quickly went to view the seller's other auctions....

Disclaimer - I have no association with any of the sellers of the
above items.

6. Finally
If you are changing email addresses soon please put a note on
your calendar to send a blank email to:
newsletter@workwinners.com
after you get your new email address.
I don't want to lose touch with you!
If a friend sent you this newsletter, you need to send a blank
email to:

That way you can get your own copy next time!
Increasingly, email filters are preventing genuine email
communications such as this newsletter from reaching subscribers.
If you use any method of checking on your email, and you wish to
continue receiving the newsletter you may need to include my
email address in your safe list, whitelist or address book.
Thank you for continuing to take my newsletter - I hope it gives
you as much enjoyment to read, as it does me to write.
